What We Believe
Statement of Beliefs.
We believe in one God, who has revealed Himself as a Trinity. That the meaning there are three eternal distinctions in one divine essence known respectively as, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Each being almighty, coequal, and the sustainer of all life and existence. (Deut. 6:4; Matt. 28:19; 2 Cor. 13:14; John 14:10, 26).
God the Son. We believe in the Deity and the work of Jesus Christ, who took upon Himself the form of a man without ceasing to be God. We believe that He was born of a Virgin, lived a life that was free of sin and then went to the cross of Calvary to die in our place for our sin. We believe that after three days and three nights that He arose bodily from the dead and then ascended visibly back to into Heaven where He now sits at the right hand of the Father making intercession for us. (Is. 7:14, 9:6; Acts 2:18-36, 1::9-10).
God the Holy Spirit. We believe in the Deity and work of the Holy Spirit, Who inspired and supervised holy men of old as they recorded the Word of God. We believe that He is actively engaged in restraining the world of sin and evil and that He is working to convict men and women of sin. We believe that He indwells every believer in Christ and abides with them forever. We believe that the Holy Spirit imparted at least one spiritual gift to every believer and that He enables the believer to effectivity use that gift. We believe that He desires to teach us and guide us through the Word of God. We do not believe that the Charismatic movement of today is the Holy Spirit, nor do we practice it. (John 16:8-11; Eph. 1:17-18; Rom. 12:3-8; 1 Cor. 1:22).
We believe that God has chosen to reveal Himself to the world through the 66 books of the Bible which consist of both the Old and New Testaments. We believe that all scripture was given by inspiration of God and supervised by the Holy Spirit as to guarantee that it was written totally as God intended. Seeing that it is totally the Word of God, it becomes the final authority for all matters of the faith and practice. We believe that the scripture is sufficient to equip God’s people for His service. We at Emmanuel Baptist Church accept the Authorized King James Version as God’s preserved Holy Word. (2 Tim. 3:16-17; 2 Pet. 1:20-21).
We believe that God created all things visible and invisible as recorded in the Genesis account. We believe that God created the universe in six literal, 24-hour periods. We reject evolution, the Gap Theory, the Day-Age Theory, and Theistic Evolution as unscriptural theories of origin. We believe that God created man in His own image and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life. We believe that God created spiritual beings called angels, who follow God and minister to His people. We believe that Satan is a fallen angel, named Lucifer, a real being who chose to rebel against God and assume God’s throne in glory. The scripture reveals that one-third of the angels followed Satan in his rebellion and now have become his helpers. (Gen.1-2; Ex. 20:11).
We believe that the first couple, Adam and Eve, chose to sin against God. As a result, by their sin, the whole world entered into sin and all people have by nature and choice become a fallen human being. Therefore, all the people of the world are under the condemnation of the a Holy God and are deserving of an everlasting punishment in the Lake of Fire. God has a plan to redeem fallen man and that is through the substitutionary death of His Son Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary. We believe that any and all who will confess their need of salvation and exercise their faith in the finished work of Christ on the cross of Calvary can be cleansed and forgiven of sin. The Bible states that salvation is eternal and permanent; giving us a certain home in heaven with God forever. (Gen. 1:26-17; Rom. 3:22-23; John 1:12; Eph. 1:7, 2:8-10; 1 Pet. 1:18-19; John 10:27-30).
The scriptures indicates that Jesus Christ is the founder and builder of the true church. Every saved person is placed by the Holy Spirit of God into the body of Christ at the moment of salvation. All believers are then instructed to become a part of a local assembly called the church and be baptized by immersion. They are to support the church with faithful attendance, prayer, giving of tithes and offerings, and to serve by using spiritual gifts.
The Church Offices.
We believe that there are two biblical offices in the church.
Pastors, (called Bishops, Elders, and Pastors). The Pastor has the responsibility for the care and feeding of the church family, to maintain purity in doctrine, and oversight of the operation of the local church.
Deacons are to become servants of the church to help meet the need of the church family, and to free the Pastor of certain obligations that he might be able to focus on prayer and the distribution of God’s Word.
The Church Ordinances.
We believe that the scripture teach us to observe two ordinances. They are Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Scripture baptism is by total immersion of the believer in the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. This ordinance follows a persons profession of faith in Jesus Christ.
The Lord’s Supper is the second ordinance taught, and is open to all men, women, and children, who have professed a personal acceptance of Jesus Christ. A careful examination of self, under the fear of God’s judgment must be done by all to insure that the individuals heart is right with God.
As human beings created by God, and purchased by the blood of Christ, we believe it is the responsibility of every believer to maintain daily practices such as personal holiness, consistent Bible study and prayer, faithful church attendance, giving of tithes and offerings, and witnessing to the lost. Because we are the Lord’s and have been bought with a price, we as believers are to abstain from practices that might hinder us from maturity or might cause us to become a stumbling block to younger Christians.
We believe in individual separation, and separation as a church from any other involvement or affiliations that deny any of the fundamentals of the faith.
We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of marriage between a man and a woman. We believe that any form of homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexuality, beastiality, incest, fornication, adultery, and pornography are sinful perversions of God’s gift of sex. (Rom. 1:26-29; 1 Cor. 5:1, 6:9; 1 Thess. 4:1-8; Heb. 13:4).
We believe that the only legitimate marriage is the joining of one man and one woman. (Gen. 2:24; Rom. 7:2; 1 Cor. 7:10; Eph. 5:22-23).
As a church we believe in a personal and visible return of Christ for His church. We believe that this Blessed Hope will take place prior to the Tribulation, when Christ will receive His chosen Bride (the church) unto Himself and will take us to Heaven.
We believe that the Lord will return at the end of seven years of Tribulation with His host of saints. It is then that the Lord will defeat the devil and his angels in one final battle and from there will establish His millennial kingdom on earth.
